Welcome to my site
It was 11 years ago when I came back home to the parish where I was born, having left my role as Deputy Chief Executive at Business in the Community in London and set up a pdpartnership email, but it has taken until now to actually get a website! So first, very many thanks to Tamsin at BEGINonline for
finally making it happen!
For most of those 11 years I have been able to piggy back on the web sites of first the UK Sustainable Development Commission and then Cynnal Cymru which provided the web presence for my roles as Commissioner on the UK body and since 2011 as Commissioner for Sustainable Futures in Wales. So a second thank you particularly to Cynnal Cymru who did a great job in supporting my role for the last 5 years
This web site now marks the start of a refreshed portfolio of projects as Sophie Howe now takes on the new role of Future Generations Commissioner with powers under the Wellbeing of Future Generations Act. There remain some links to some of my old blogs and my final presentation in my old role, but I have also taken the opportunity to reflect of some of the learning from past roles to start the new series of blogs.
In future I hope I can use the blogs to share thoughts from the various organisations and projects that I am very proud to be associated with going forward. There is an exciting range of roles – including the most recent addition as “community custodian” for the ground breaking River Simple team, who are creating a whole new concept in personal transport from their base in Llandrindod Wells.
I have tried to build a focus around citizen, consumer and community-led activities so delighted to have the honour and opportunity to be Chair of the Wales Council for Voluntary Action and also to chair the Customer Challenge Group for our not for profit water company Dwr Cymru Welsh Water. I am pleased to be able to continue other roles including chairing the Size of Wales, Teach First Cymru Advisory Board, being an independent member of BT Wales Board, and as an associate with University of Wales Trinity St David while I hope I can contribute to growing community energy through Community Energy Pembrokeshire.
I am sure there will be plenty of issues to share from all of these and more.
